Dear friends,
The time has come, or so I imagine, to meet in person and play some games. I have so longed for this and will remain hopeful that both the current state of the pandemic and the weather will, just, like, chill so we can be together. Chill… hmm… maybe not too chill as it’s still technically winter, and sunset will be at 7:15 following the time change early Sunday morning. We’ll be good, right? Worst case, we’ll simply run the event online, and that will be communicated in all the places.
Our next Authentic Relating Games event will happen in person on Monday, March 14, 2022, 5:00 - 7:00 pm PST. Doug and I will be facilitating, and we’ll meet near the Edoff Memorial Bandstand at Lake Merritt. The event is limited to 16 people, so you’re encouraged to sign up early.
As I sit here doing all the things to schedule and promote the event, I feel the Luddite flexing its muscles within me. I just can’t help it, y’all. Can’t we just grow vegetables and make love? There is just so much doing all the damn time! All these web sites. All the cutting and pasting, checkbox checking, advertising, and upgrading. All the people working so hard to create all these wonderful tools. I just kinda want to get a stick and dig a hole with it, maybe get in the hole and feel the coolness of the earth.
What doesn’t feel great to me is time in front of my computer. What does feel great is time with other humxns practicing being together, stripping it down to what we are experiencing in this moment and allowing that to lead to the next moment, and the next, and the next.
Maybe we’ll share some grief in response to the incomprehensible wielding of power by some humxns over some other humxns. Maybe we’ll share some joy at being able to engage more in the world or in the anticipation of spring. Whatever it is gets to be, to be real, and fully experienced for these two hours. I’m super excited for that.
Please join us.
What are Authentic Relating Games? Authentic Relating Games are a place to practice different ways of being human with others. AR Games interrupt our habitual ways of being, and offer opportunities to stretch ourselves emotionally, mentally, and relationally. At the end of the games, participants often feel connected with one another.
What are the games like? They are structured. Some of them are played one-on-one, some in small groups, some with the whole group. They range from fun and playful to serious and edgy, and from 5-ish to 30-ish minutes each.
Curious, but not sure if this is for you? We understand. Feel free to reply to this message with any questions you might have.
We hope to see you at our next event.
Warmly,
Ryan
